Florida Softshell Turtle - This is the largest of the North American softshell turtles. Its shell is very low and can grow to just over 17 inches long. The shell is somewhat elongated and and has numerous ridges and indentations. Usually, this turtle is gray to brown in color and may have darker blotches. Its head and limbs are brown. It can be found in streams, lakes, and canals. It eats nearly all kinds of small animals that live in or near water.
